Did you know that the use of antibiotics did not begin in this century; early folk medicine included the use of moldy foods or soil for infections. In ancient Egypt, for example, infections were treated with moldy bread.

I remember reading something about moldy breads being used as antibiotics. This entry confirmed my curiosity about ancient antibiotics.
Overuse of antibiotics is harmful too.
This is new to me!
Is aspirin really good for the heart?
@ Mon,
There are documented accounts about the use of moldy bread to cure infections.
Exactly! Taking antibiotics when they are not needed can be a dangerous prescription. Resistant bacteria are germs that are not killed by usual doses of antibiotics and emerge because of antibiotic misuse or overuse. This could cause devastating problems to your health and for the generations to come.
@ Ramon
As the saying goes, "an aspirin a day protects men's hearts and women's brains." I read a lot about the protective powers of aspirin. It reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes while increasing your chances of surviving them. Studies are now being conducted if this household drug may protect us in other ways, too.
