THE BOOK OF TITAN

A book of maps is called an atlas because the innovative sixteenth century Flemish geographer Gerardus Mercator's book of maps detailing various portions of Europe sported on its cover a picture of the Greek titan Atlas holding the world on his shoulders--and this book became known as the atlas.

Hi, thanks a heap for swinging by. I sincerely appreciate the visit and the nice comment you posted. Of course, I know a lot about Greek, Roman, Norse, etc., myths. I still remember memorizing the immortal olympians and their counterparts in the order of importance. I cannot promise to give fullest account of the earliest gods and goddesses. I will probably dwell more on the their association with specific aspects of life.

Have a grand time!
