A TREASURED PICTURE

Enrico Caruso

The great tenor Enrico Caruso was performing in San Francisco on April 17, 1906. when the famous earthquake occurred. The terrified tenor took just one thing from his shattered room, a picture of President Theodore Roosevelt, personally autographed to Caruso. Later, when he tried to get on a train with the other members of the opera company, the guards didn't recognize him and wouldn't let him pass. But Caruso showed them his treasured picture, was issued a boarding pass, and made his way to safety.
