OF NUMBERS

Did you know that when Arabic numerals were invented they did not win immediate acceptance. In the year 1300, their use was forbidden in European commercial dealings because they could be forged more easily than Roman numerals. Changing "1979" seems to be simpler than changing "MCMLXXIX". Arabic numerals were not completely accepted throughout Europe until 1800.

Arabic numbers are a lot easier to use than the Roman numerals. You can attest to that. The latter is more confusing.

Magdi, welcome back from short leave. You are right, interactive math and/or operations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are easier with Arabic numerals than Roman numerals.

I read a news article yesterday about a man complaining about the use of Roman numerals in the modern world. He said, if you perform the basic operations, the tendency is to convert the Roman numerals into Arabic numerals. He has his point. I was doing the same thing in the elementary.

And he is just too proud to have learned the Arabic numerals. I read the article, too!
