THY BEAUTY IS TO ME!

The Padaung people of Burma believe that a long neck is beautiful. When a woman is young, she has a brass ring fastened around her neck. Over the years, rings are added until the neck becomes elongated and the beauty is achieved. She also wears brass rings around her legs, and daily carries around about twenty pounds of brass.

They are actually an ethnic minority group of Kayin (Karen) people in Myanmar(Burma). Also called Padaung, Long-necked Tribe, Giraffe-necked people, and "Wednesday Children."

The Kayans appear to be Mongolian in origin. They have their own language and traditions. The origins of the practice are very unclear.

Some of them are now living in a very remote place near the Thai border.
