We used to live in a clean neighborhood here in South Al-Khobar. Garbage bins were collected on a regular basis, not much vehicles could be seen on the road, there were lots of vacant spaces where expatriates and locals could play their cricket and soccer games
Street sweepers were very diligent and hard working. They were quick in cleaning their respective assigned areas, so much so that they had enough time to relax and enjoy cups of tea or coffee with friend cleaners. But it's totally a different scene now; the once quiet place now teems with Asian expatriates. The almost empty main thoroughfare is now a very busy road. Cars parked along both sides of the road and alleys. The once clean neighborhood is now so dirty. There are litters everywhere. Smug drivers throw wrappers out of their cars as they drive at high speed. Confident pedestrians often throw their polystyrene coffee cups, stirrers, cigarette butts, teabags, plastic bags, and candy wrappers on the ground, to think there might be a trash bin a few steps ways. It is hardly fair to assume that it is someone else's job to pick up rubbish of insensitive individuals. The worst thing is seeing them spitting anywhere. What a shame!
It is heartening to know that not all residents are inconsiderate. Some even go out of thier way to clean other people's rubbish.
