COP WANTS AN EXCUSE

A man was driving home late one afternoon, and he was driving above the speed limit. He notices a police car with its red lights on in his rear view mirror. He thinks "I can outrun this guy," so he floors it and the race is on. The cars are racing down the highway -- 60, 70, 80, 90 miles an hour.

Finally, as his speedometer passes 100, the guy figures "what the heck," and gives up. He pulls over to the curb.

The police officer gets out of his cruiser and approaches the car. He leans down and says "Listen mister, I've had a really lousy day, and I just want to go home. Give me a good excuse and I'll let you go."

The man thought for a moment and said... "Three weeks ago, my wife ran off with a police officer. When I saw your cruiser in my rear view mirror, I thought that you were the officer and that you were trying to give her back to me!"

A CROSS-DRESSING GIMMICK!

Why do some people cross-dress? May be, to attract attention, for the fun of it, to shock others, for comfort or style, challenge social norms. There is always a logical explanation for this behavior. Take the case of this true cross-dressing story.

Police officers are doning wigs and wearing women's clothing to catch criminals targeting females on the city's streets, according to a senior officials. They are taking this unusual move because of the rising crime in the city and it works. By disguising their true identities, they were able to arrest some 60 wanted muggers, who have been targeting officers thinking they are women civilians.

The special formed teams are helping to catch muggers, bag snatchers and pickpockets, which are on the increase in the city. Some male officers wear full burkas (female garments), while others opt for wigs to disguise themselves as women at busy intersections and crowded places where most of the crimes occur.

EQUALITY FOR ALL

If there is any issue today that is getting a loud outcry, it is social justice or civil justice. It is an issue that portrays the harsh reality of life. It speaks about compassion for those who suffer and experience injustices in life and the need to give them the help that they require. Social justice exists when all members of a society are accorded full human dignity and have equal opportunity to choose from among all available options for lifestyle and personal fulfillment.

Social justice is necessary to make any human society functions smoothly. Thus, respect for human dignity and human rights should also be our primary concern. These things are needed to maintain peace and order in our society.

The question is, with whom do we start? We can start by leading a simple, peaceful lives. Peace is a social order or set of human relationship in which community needs are met and social justice is attained through non violent and cooperative action by community members. This mean people are living in an atmosphere where there is maximum dispensing of friendliness and compassion, and harmonious coexistence. Respect of human dignity is a good beginning to a chain reaction of lasting peace.

DO YOU SUPPORT DAYCARE SERVICES?

A colleague inquired if there is a daycare facility in our area. He plans to bring his family here, and his wife would like to work, too. He has two young boys, and wishes to put them in a daycare center.

Parents who put their young children in daycare centers do so for a variety of reasons. In some cases, even in two-parent homes, the reason is economic: parents feel they must both work to achieve the standard of living they want. Many people believe daycare is good for young children in and of itself. These parents believe even infants can play well with each other. Furthermore, these parents believe the quality of time spent with parents is much more important to children than the quantity. Parents have more time to attend to other and make them happy because daycare relieves the solitude of being a parent. It helps them bring up their children together with others, as they exposed to other adults, not just them.

Daycare is a good experience for kids. But how old should a child be before attending daycare? Three years and older seems to be the current consensus among psychologists.

When I was young, my brother used to hit, punch, kick, verbally abuse, and embarrass me all the time because he ever hated the idea of my going around the neighborhood looking for some chores to do.

My brother had this very bad impression that our neighbors were taking advantage of my generosity, and he would always shout at me, "alilang kanin!!!" a Tagalog idiom, meaning you work like a house help for food only and no salary. This idea stuck with him and it hurt his pride the most. Little did he know that I was being paid more than the value of the work I did for our neighbors, like house sitting, scrubbing floors, washing dishes, baby sitting, watering plants, marketing, washing clothes, ironing clothes, etc.

I always pride myself on being very enterpising at a very young age.

IS ATM MACHINE SAFE?

You run out of cash, go the nearest ATM machine. It serves the purpose. But is it safe to do your cash business through ATM machines on a regular basis?

ATM machines may be one of the useful inventions today, but they present a lot of potential danger.

It happened lately to an elderly man, who decided to try out one of these newfangled bank-computing machines that dispense money. The only problem was that he knew neither how to read nor how to use one of these odd contraptions. So he decided to wave down the nearest passerby, who happened to be someone the old man would later describe to police as a male in his 20s.

The old man asked the stranger to show him how to operate the mysterious contraption known as an ATM. The youth asked the man for the secret code that allows for the withdrawal of funds through a slot on these electrical boxes with buttons and lights. The man divulged his secret code and the young man proceeded to transfer the old man's funds into his account. Then the young thief told the old man that for some reason the machine wasn't working. The old man discovered later that the young man had tricked him and filed a charge with the local police.

I still believe it is safer getting your money through the bank counter. In the bank, there are cameras and security staff around.

PLASTIC BAGS

Do you collect plastic bags? I do and I find them very useful. I always fold them neatly after taking out the grocery items, something I learned from an American colleague. I use them when collecting trash. Most of the time as cushions when air-freighting items to Manila.

Oftentimes, we notice that most shoppers prefer to use many plastic bags as possible when packing away groceries at supermarket checkout counters. On the other hand, there are a few shoppers who place larger items in a few plastic bags and put smaller items in their handbags or pockets. It is outrageous and not wise to collect and just throw them away. A lady shopper made a very good point in saying most shoppers end up throwing their accumulated plastic bags in the trash. We can find them blowing across open fields, streets, highways, canals, branches of trees, on beaches and in the water. We can find them everywhere. Plastic bags are now associated with many environmental risk factors; air pollution and health dangers to humans and other living beings.

A concerned group said, we have other options, better options!

TOMATINA Y SANDIA

OBSESSIVE CLEANLINESS

This may be an old issue, but is still worthy of note.

Parents who tend to over protect their children by obsessive washing need to be educated that it is very bad for their children's health. A research conducted positively indicates a direct link between the frequency of washing and the incidence of eczema and wheezing. The more the children are washed the more likely they are to have the conditions, particularly severe eczema, lending more credence to the "hygiene hypothesis", which suggests that too much cleanliness inhibits the child's natural immune responses to everyday bacteria. Children who are washed the most are two and half times more likely to have severe eczema as well as running an increased risk of asthma.

Is it in order to assume that coming into contact with simple grime and dirt may be good for the children? The research pointed out that lack of such contact, perhaps due to the fact that children spend more time indoors and parents use more anti-bacterial products around the home, may lead to allergies and conditions, such as eczema and asthma.

So this answers my question why many children here have skin disorders. It is not because of the salty water, but because of parents who are obsessive with cleanliness.
